Sentiment tracker - Housing affordability

Tracking New Zealanders’ opinions on a range of issues, the Sentiment Tracker is a nationally representative study.

Housing affordability occupies the attention of many people. We asked New Zealanders that already own homes whether they were confident if they could buy their property at its current market rate.

Key facts

More than half of New Zealanders couldn't afford to purchase the property they now own at its current value. Those aged 18-29 were most confident they could buy their property at its current rate.

Those aged 60-69 were least confident they'd be able to afford to buy their home in today's market.
