Our second annual car reliability survey covers 10,520 cars owned by our members. Find out which SUVs they rated as being most reliable and satisfying to own, plus the reasons behind purchasing certain models.
There’s a trend towards sport utility vehicles (SUVs). Of the vehicles in our survey produced since 2015, 45% are SUVs. Referring to them as “four-wheel drives” isn’t always accurate. According to our survey, more than a quarter of the SUVs we own are only two-wheel-drive and the proportion of 2WDs is increasing.
Compared to the average car owner, SUV owners were more likely to be “very satisfied” with safety. That’s not likely a result of them escaping a crash unscathed, but rather because they generally feel safer in their SUV. Compared to owners of smaller cars, owners of smaller crossover SUVs were more satisfied with comfort but less satisfied with fuel economy.
