A legal challenge to the secrecy of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) negotiations is set to be heard in Wellington at 10am on Monday.
Consumer NZ is a co-applicant in the proceedings, along with Ngati Kahungunu, Oxfam, Greenpeace, the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists, New Zealand Nurses Organisation and the Tertiary Education Union.
The challenge is led by University of Auckland Professor Jane Kelsey, who made a request for information about the negotiations under the Official Information Act that was refused by Trade Minister Tim Groser. She wants the High Court to declare the refusal as unlawful.
A Give-A-Little page has been set up so people can donate towards the costs of the challenge, including legal fees, filing fees and potential appeal costs. So far, about 390 people have donated more than $20,000 between them.
