Snapshot: The Weber Family Q Premium (Q3200AU) barbecue has a medium-sized cooking area but no side burner. How well does it cook?
Unlock all of Consumer from just $12 a month
The overall score is made up of cooking performance (60%) and ease of use (40%). Our performance assessment is weighted equally between these 4 tests:
Steak cooked on the grill for six to eight minutes each side with all burners on full.
Sausages grilled on a medium heat for 10 to 12 minutes each side with the entire cooking surface covered and the hood closed (unless the manufacturer states otherwise).
Marinated chicken wings cooked on the hotplate over a low heat, for about 10 minutes each side.
Whole chicken roasted (if possible on the barbecue) with the outder burners on high and inner burners on low, and the hood closed.
Top-scoring barbecues cooked everything evenly throughout, resulting in consistently tender and juicy meat. This also meant the barbecue’s temperature was easy to control, and its heat was evenly distributed across the cooking surface.
Ease of use scores comprise general ease of cooking (40%) mobility (20%), controls (20%) and cleaning (20%).
Running time shows how long a 9kg gas cylinder will last when all burners are running on full.
The Weber Q3100 is similar to the Q3200 and is available at all Weber stockists. The built-in Q3600 is also expected to perform similarly.

Pros:
Works well, easy to clean, very efficient, ticks most boxes other than keeping food warm but that is a compromise I can live with to have the benefits of other features.
Cons:
It is a real pity that the screws used to assemble are not stainless and start to rust. Also the aluminium trays underneath to catch fat etc would be much better if they were stainless. These two items would add very little to the cost of an expensive BBQ but would add real value to the units after a couple of years outside.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Pros:
Very efficient BBQ
Cons:
major downside, surprisingly not mentioned, is no where to place food to be be kept warmed after cooking. Everywhere in BBQ is hot to very hot. Worth deduction of 10 to 20% when comparing other hooded BBQ's.
Recommend it?
Maybe, it depends on what you're after.

Pros:
18 months in, I still love my Weber. It cooks an ordinary BBQ really well (I've cooked for 2-12 without any trouble), and does lots of slow dishes really well too. Well worth the money.
Cons:
You'll want to buy Weber accessories, which aren't cheap.

Pros:
Cooks roasts better than the oven, the chicken has crispy skin and is juicy. Steak is amazing, the kids reckon it is like a restaurant cooked steak. Buy the extras and you can cook pizzas and smoke your fish. I bought the Q3200 with thermometer and a higher lid.

Pros:
Cooks perfect every time, Easy to clean, Portable, Low on gas (I'm 12+ months in and still on the same bottle and we BBQ 2-3 times a week in the summer), You'll be surprised how much food you can cook on it! Roasting trivet is a must.
Cons:
Flip-out side shelves don't hold that much weight
Roasting trivet should come included in the price

Pros:
Works well before it rusts out

Rust. Even the aluminium cover rusts after 2 years (the paint comes off) As for the light holder that steel or iron has rusted through. We are about to throw it out.

Pros:
Everything... I love my Webber, bought all the extras and have cooked everything on it from meats and vegetables (at the same time) to prawn dishes, rack of lamb, spare ribs.. with the pizza stone our pizzas are better than Hell. The size is small enough to take to the beach, but large enough for family and friends..

None that I can think of! :)

I recently purchased a Q3200 from a Stihl shop. Mitre10 do not stock the Q3200 with higher lid and temp gauge. BBQ is absolutely amazing. No rusting parts, very fast - steak 3 mins each side and juiciest and most flavoursome steak I have ever tasted. Well worth the price.

Pros:
We have cooked a lot in this little beauty, make sure you get the one with the high lid and temperature gauge.
We brought ours from the weber direct that way you get the high lid and temperature gauge.
the temperature guage correct.
Heats up fast.
We cooked a rost port on xmas day and no problem no more sweating over a hot oven.

Product use: 1 month or less
Pros:
Super accurate temp control and gauge, get the high lid and temp gauge model.
Heats up in a jiffy, and gets hot!
Plastic and stainless - great for Auckland and coastal use.
I am a long time and fanatical BBQ user, have 3 in current use. Kent (v good) Masport 4 burner (V bad) an old Captain Cook stainless with a hood, about 25 yrs old - just will not die....
Bought myself a Christmas present Q3200 - sick of battling with Masport - Took a punt and cooked the Christmas Turkey in the Weber (against protestations.... ) It was awesome, - foody wife humbled!

Product use: 1 month or less
Pros:
Quality build, easy to put together, nifty extras but you do have to buy them.
Cooked potato wedges from raw, partially defrosted chicken breast, a very thick piece and some steak. The whole lot tasted amazing, especially the chicken breast, I went a little to long on the steak, operator error.
Easy clean
Cons:
The side trays feel a little flimsy being plastic. A minor thing really.
Yip its a bit pricey for what you get, the quality and what it can do is well worth it.

Product use: 6 months or more
Pros:
I'm not a BBQ fanatic but I love this BBQ. Food is tastes great, it is really easy to clean the cooking surface and because all the parts are either aluminum & plastic, it doesn't rust. Read the manual though - the BBQ is designed to work with the lid down, not continually poking the food with the lid up. And as someone else said; get one with a high lid & temperature gauge.
Cons:

Yes, I recommend this product.
23 Nov 2014, Ricky L.
Product use: 1 - 3 months
Pros:
So easy to use that during kitchen renovations, even daughter and wife were confident in using it, even for baking and roasting. 10 mins on high and its ready to sear, Awesome for steaks with great grill flavour. Get the high top with temp gauge. Also get the flat plate which is an extra.
Cons:
would be good that the bottom half was able to store extra's like the flat plate, I leave it on the grill when not in use, but when cooking, one of them has to be put somewhere.
Recommend it?
Yes, I recommend this product.
