I used to have Ultra Care, but switched to Wellbeing Two several years ago because of the comparatively much lower premiums. Wellbeing Two covers surgical and specialist care, which are the main areas I want insured. I haven't made many claims, so I could argue I haven't had value for money - but I feel it's an essential safety net to avoid long hospital waiting lists in the future. This is the only reason I keep this insurance going. And with decreasing state health funding and services, I don't think I'll be dropping my health insurance any time soon!
The premium's skyrocketing each year, with larger and larger increases as one gets older; this is the downside of having private health insurance, of course. I would also love to add back the benefits of doctor, prescription, dental and optometry that I used to have under the Ultra Care plan - but the premium would then become outrageously expensive. So I am sticking with Wellbeing Two. It all comes down to balancing making budgetary sacrifices in order to pay the premiums, against the risks of future surgical needs under a dwindling public health system.
Maybe, it depends on what you're after.
