Good points

  • Good at edging kerbs and paths.
  • Good at edging alongside vertical walls (although it leaves behind a small groove in the lawn).
  • Very easy to use.
  • Very good manoeuvrability on hard surfaces and good manoeuvrability on grass (although it requires some strength to keep it straight).
  • Very comfortable handles.
  • Excellent visibility while edging.
  • Excellent cutting-height adjuster.

But

  • Expensive.

How we test

Overall score comprises performance (50%) and ease of use (50%).

Performance is based on edging a pathway, kerb and wall.

Ease of use is assessed on manoeuvrability on grass and concrete surfaces, handle comfort, cutting visibility, controls, starting, vibration and cutting-height adjustment.

Price is from a September 2017 survey.
