How we test

Overall score is calculated from:

  • Usability (70%) – assessing the size and configuration of sleeping and living spaces, vestibules and storage, door configuration and access, windows and venting options.
  • Ease of assembly (30%) – assessing the time it takes to put the tent up and take it down again, the weight and ease of carrying the packed tent, pitching instructions, and quality of poles, pegs and guy points.

We also put the tents through a rain test, either natural or created with hoses. We look for water entering into storage, living and sleeping areas. This score is not used in the overall score.
