No agitator, so should be gentler on clothes. Cleans well.
MAJOR issue for us is the "Auto Drain" feature. The machine will drain its water out, if you pause it for more than 3 minutes. EXCEEDINGLY FRUSTRATING. F & P says this is due to the drowning hazard for small children. Really? How many kids have drowned in a washing machine, versus how many teenagers, when asked to put their uniform in the machine, because a load is on, can get it done within 3 minutes. Even the ability to TURN THE FUNCTION OFF would be preferred. I WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS MODEL had I known of this feature.
No, this product has too many drawbacks.
Cleansmart models achieve a high energy star rating by spraying warm soapy water on clothes then wash in a puddle of cold water. Turning the efficiency button to off gives you slightly deeper cold water but does not defeat cold eco function. It is important to run the hot tap into the sink until it reaches temperature or entire wash will be at 16C. F&P recommend that water is at least 21C but that may not be reached regardless of temperature control setting or hot water supply. No manual water levels. Aesthetic and pleasant to use. Robust build. Impellor and top loading makes easy access.
Only two options allow a warm wash: The Allergy cycle makes it possible to do a warm wash in minimum water but is slow because it has 3 spin cycles. The Sheet cycle also will do a warm wash filling to around 40% which may be more water than needed. A hot wash is not possible. The impellor system perhaps tangles making ironing more necessary but is convenient when removing clothes. I read this review, looked at the F&P website, talked to 3 shops, read online reviews, and downloaded the manuals for all F&P models before making this decision! Needs circuit board redesign to give true options.
Maybe, it depends on what you're after.
Build quality seems better than our old 9 year old model
Doesn't allow manual settings of water level but considering it uses an impellor style agitator then that makes sense
The big problem we had with our machine was it did a terrible job in the first week we had it with clothes not washed with enough water (they came out with dry spots) and large lines of lint. We called the F&P helpline who were very good and got a technician out the next day. It turned out this machine had been assembled with the agitator model 'brain' which accounted for the poor performance. Luckily the tech had a new board in the van. Problem solved. Poor quality control!
Yes, I recommend this product.
