    Bad points

    • Can't be installed in Otago Air Zone 1 (Alexandra, Cromwell, Clyde, Arrowtown) or in Milton.
    • Can't be installed in Canterbury clean air zones.
    • Can't be installed in some parts of the Nelson Urban Area.

    How we test

Testing for emissions, efficiency and power output using AS/NZS 4012/4013 was carried out by an independent lab in New Zealand.

We analyse data from National Environmental Standards (NES) testing to generate scores out of 10 for emissions and efficiency, along with an overall score. This gives us a clear picture of the performance, features and specifications for almost every model on the market.

Where available, we've also included the NZHHA output results. These results reflect the absolute maximum heat output you could achieve in your home.

Price is from the manufacturers’ survey and is without a flue kit unless stated otherwise.

    Overall score includes:
    Efficiency (60%)
    Emissions (40%)

      Lovely powerful fire.

      Pros

We bought the rural version of this fire based on the Consumer test results. The bay window is great, and means the fire box is a good size for an insert fire. Once up to temperature, it puts out loads of heat, successfully warming a lot more of the house than we'd expected. It also happily burns Liquidambar, which our old Jetmaster refused to burn.

      Cons

The design looks great, but is a little fiddly to keep clean - there are a lot of nooks, crannies and ledges that need regular vacuuming as a brush and pan don't fit/reach. Burning timber also produces an enormous amount of ash in the firebox. Our old Jetmaster only needed cleaning out monthly, but the Firenzo needs cleaning out every 2-3 days, as continual burning over that time produces 12-15cm of ash in the firebox. I have contacted Firenzo though, and they've advised it's likely because of the Liquidambar we use, and to use more pine (or similar), so we'll try that.
