How Energy Rating Labels can save you money

Choosing a more energy-efficient front-loading washing machine could save you more than $2000 over a decade.

Before buying a new appliance, a quick check of its Energy Rating Label could end up saving you a packet.

Do the math. It’s easy to calculate how much an appliance will cost you to run. Just grab your latest power bill to get your kWh cost – or use the MBIE-reported national average (29¢ kWh) – and multiply it by the kWh energy consumption figure on the label.

Choosing an energy-efficient french-door fridge would save you almost $600 over a decade, compared with a less efficient (but similar size) model. Choosing a more energy-efficient front-loading washing machine could save you more than $2000 over a decade.
