Got an old iPhone that’s slowed to a crawl or stopped receiving updates? We can help you choose a replacement.

On this page

  • Which iPhone should you buy?
  • The two iPhones we wouldn’t buy new in 2026
  • What about an Android phone?

There are seven iPhone models currently available new from Apple’s online store:

  • iPhone 17

  • iPhone Air

  • iPhone 17 Pro

  • iPhone 17 Pro Max

  • iPhone 17e

  • iPhone 16

  • iPhone 16 Plus

We’ve independently tested all seven in our lab, and we think five of them are worth considering for different reasons (and two are a bit pointless). It all depends on what you’ll use your phone for and how much you want to spend.

What about an Android phone?

If you’re not fully committed to Apple’s sprawling ecosystem, a change of phone can be a good trigger to escape to less restrictive alternatives.

An Android phone from a brand like Samsung or Oppo will be more compatible with software from Google, which might run your smart TV or in-car display, for example.

Browse our mobile phone reviews to find the Android phones that performed the best in our lab.
