Jon has made a career of fighting for consumers. He has a deep interest in sustainability and the environmental impacts of consumption, data ethics and promoting equity.
Jon was previously the Assistant Privacy Commissioner, Head of Trust & Safety at Trade Me and worked as a Senior Investigator at the Commerce Commission.
Head of Business Revenue and Growth
Phil joined Consumer in Dec 2021, bringing a commercial, strategy and planning background. He has held several senior roles in private and Government sectors. Phil has been employed as a consultant and has also been a business owner himself. Roles have included Service Performance and Planning at ACC and Strategy Manager at Public Trust.
Phil is responsible for the oversight of Consumer NZ's commercial operations, and seeks to understand the needs of customers and businesses alike, and how Consumer NZ can add value to help Aotearoa.
Head of Research and Advocacy
Years ago, Gemma was charged for a single Jetstar flight multiple times in a ticketing error – they refused to refund her money. Taking on a giant airline (and winning) gave her a taste for the complexity of consumer rights. With a background in journalism, data, and communications, she started her advocacy journey at CHOICE, Australia’s consumer organisation. Currently she is the head of research and advocacy at Consumer NZ, where she is responsible for leading the investigative, communications, advocacy, and grants teams. She is passionate about demystifying complex consumer information and driving change through advocacy to empower New Zealanders.
Head of Experience and Marketing
Bex brings over 14 years of experience to her role, where she is responsible for safeguarding the legacy of Consumer NZ's brand while ensuring its relevance in a changing consumer landscape. She leads a talented team of creative professionals delivering digital experience, editorial, design, marketing and consumer services. She is dedicated to broadening Consumer’s impact and advocating for vulnerable communities across Aotearoa.
Head of Testing
Paul manages Consumer’s product test programme. He has spent most of his career pushing user-focused quality into the design and manufacture of cars in the UK, and educating design engineers of the future in New Zealand. Paul wants Consumer’s independent tests to empower people to make informed purchase decisions. He’ll only be satisfied when he rids the world (or at least New Zealand) of underperforming, poorly designed products.
