If the weather turning has your washing pile getting higher by the day, you might be considering getting on top of it with a new dryer.

We’ve got good news for you – doing that doesn’t have to cost a lot. Sure, there are dryers in our test results that cost more than $3,000. But among the options that get our Consumer Recommended tick, because they’re the best, are some vented models that cost under $1,000. They might look basic and not have all the features of much more expensive ones, but they do what you want a dryer to do.
When it comes to buying a dryer, you can’t rely on a brand name. Bosch, which makes some of the best models in other appliance categories, is one to ignore when buying a dryer. Bosch dryers get our three worst scores, and we’ve even labelled one of their dryers a “Don’t Buy”.
The only way to really know what you’re taking home is to check out how they perform in our test lab. You can see how they score for drying performance, how much drying a load will cost each time and how other Consumer NZ members review them.
