This report is free thanks to funding from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Toka Tū Ake EQC.
A good value starter kit (the cheapest in our test) of good quality with a very good torch. But the first aid kit isn't as good as others in our test, and it's missing a radio and a checklist of items to add. That's a real problem as people might think they're getting a complete kit and find themselves short in an emergency.

- Good quality kit.
- Good value - it would cost around $20 more (plus shipping or petrol) to build this kit yourself.
- Good backpack with multiple compartments, reflective piping, bungy compression strap and double zips that slide well.
- Very good battery powered torch.
- Four snack bars included.
- Includes ear plugs, which no other pre-made kit did.
- Extra foil blanket included.
- Four N95/P2 masks included.
- 1.5L bottle of water included, two years to expiry.
Bad points
- No radio supplied.
- First aid kit doesn't have any wound dressings.
- Only a pocket pack of tissues included.
- Food rations are just snack bars of 191 calories with a three-year shelf life.
- No work gloves supplied.
- Doesn't include any water purification.
- Doesn't include a checklist of items to be added.
