In France, a ‘repairability index’ has been introduced for five product types to help consumers make better-informed choices. But it could be many years before something like this appears in Aotearoa.

Here at Consumer NZ, we’ve decided to take matters into our own hands. We already publish a repairability score for mobile phones. Now, we’re extending it to other categories, starting with stick vacuum cleaners.

Stick vac repairability width

A stick vacuum cleaner should last at least 5 years. But many are thrown out before that time if they break and can’t be repaired.

Often, it’s the battery that gives up first. If a replacement can’t be sourced, then the vacuum cleaner is effectively dead.
