Resellers scalping Ed Sheeran tickets

Some tickets already listed for twice the price.

Tickets to Ed Sheeran’s March 2018 concerts are being sold on ticket resale website Viagogo at hugely inflated prices.

Viagogo is listing single tickets for the singer’s Auckland concert at more than twice the cost advertised for pre-sales by the official ticket seller.

Consumer NZ chief executive Sue Chetwin says consumers need to be extremely wary of buying from ticket resale sites.

“Despite the sites’ claims you’ll get genuine tickets, we’ve heard complaints from concert-goers who’ve been stuck with duds,” she says.

Consumer NZ is investigating the ticket resale market.

“From our research, we consider the practices used by resale sites risk misleading consumers about what they’re getting for their money,” Ms Chetwin says.

Anyone who has bought a ticket through a resale site is invited to complete Consumer NZ’s survey.

Issues Consumer NZ is looking at include:

  • Exorbitant or inflated ticket prices
  • Fake tickets
  • Seats not being as described
  • Fans being denied access to venues
  • Tickets not being delivered
  • High fees
  • Incorrect credit card charges
  • Poor customer service.
